Hannover – Goslar: First route recommendation

From Hannover take the Autobahn A7, exit Bockenem and travel toward Lutter (toward B246, follow signs indicating U56) passing through Bodenstein and Lutter to the B6 and toward Goslar—at first a curving stretch on narrow country roads. The B6 is then a straight stretch.

Hannover – Goslar: Second route recommendation

From Hannover take the Autobahn A7, exit Bockenem and travel toward Lutter (toward B246, follow signs indicating U56) passing through Bodenstein toward Lutter. Just beyond Bodenstein there is a little rise and the road is curvy. In Lutter in the staggered junction turn (first left, then right) toward Ostlutter, then toward Langelsheim. Or, even better, take a loop along the idyllic country roads via Ostharingen, Kunigunde, Bredelem, Langelsheim and then via the B82 toward Goslar. up to the B6.

Hannover – Goslar: Third route recommendation

From Hanover take the B6 to Hildesheim. In Hildesheim take B243 (signs for Bad Salzdetfurth/Seesen), follow the B243 and pass Düngen. In Wesseln take the Bockenem direction (Caution: very winding road). From Bockenem follow the first or second route, as above.

Wolfsburg/Helmstedt - Königslutter - Goslar

Coming from Wolfsburg or from the Berlin Autobahn, take the exit Königslutter and follow the Elm. Worth seeing in Königslutter: the church and the Imperial Cathedral with a giant lime tree and a great church garden. Leaving Königslutter it’s uphill to the Tetzelstein and a nice cafe. After passing the Tetzelstein turn right in the direction of Erkrode/Lucklum (alternative via Schöppenstedt and then on to Dettum), from there toward Wolfenbüttel and the B4 downhill toward Goslar

Alternative: the Autobahn A395 runs parallel to the B4. For those who have not yet had enough landscape, turn off in Schladen-Nord in the direction of Liebenburg, uphill. At the top is a junction; either go straight ahead via Liebenburg/Hahndorf toward Goslar – or, even better – via Wehre, Weddingen and Immenrode.

Coming from the east

Halle - Goslar

Bikers coming from Halle who prefer curves to straight roads first take the B80 to Eisleben and there turn off to Mansfeld. In Mansfeld a scenic road starts which leads directly through the Harz Mountains. Stay on the B242 all the way to Braunlage. In Braunlage, B242 and the B4 join together. From here there are several different for the last stretch.

Braunlage – Goslar: First route recommendation

For a start, there is the B4 with its highest point situated in Torfhaus. The large parking lot here is a major meeting point for all bikers and provides a view of the Brocken Mountain, the highest point in the Harz Mountains. From here the B4 is a four-lane highway descending steeply down to Bad Harzburg. From Bad Harzburg there is an expressway to Goslar.

Braunlage – Goslar: Second route recommendation

Approx. 4 km outside of Braunlage you can once again follow the B242 in the direction of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. En route, after passing the turn-off to Altenau (which is another way to reach Goslar), there is the „Dammhaus“ (on the left side), a popular restaurant with summer terrace. In Clausthal-Zellerfeld take the B241 in the direction of Goslar. For this road a high degree of competency in handling the machine at higher speeds is a prerequisite.

Braunlage – Goslar: Third route recommendation

Stay on B4 and in Torfhaus turn in the direction of Altenau. If you like, you can ride straight ahead for about 50 metres and go to the parking lot at the highest point, the fine-weather bikers’ meeting place. The road to Altenau is once again something for those who enjoy scenic drives. In Altenau follow the signs indicating Goslar. Stay on B498 and travel along the Okertalsperre (Oker River Valley Reservoir). The dam is a great place to stop for a break. After passing the dam the descent down the Oker Valley begins– one of the most favoured motorcycle routes of the Harz Mountains - and as so often happens unfortunately the route with the most motorcycle accidents. There are some very sharp hairpin curves, so do drive carefully. Apart from that, this road is great and certainly worth riding.

Coming from the south

Kassel - Weserbergland - Einbeck - Bad Gandersheim - Seesen - Goslar

In Kassel take the B3 in the direction of Hannoversch-Münden. In Hannoversch-Münden stay on the left side of the Weser River and follow it as it snakes its way through the countryside. En route there are several ferries with which you can cross over to the right side of the Weser River (if desired). Continue to Beverungen; from here you can take the route Höxter - Holzminden - Bad Gandersheim. More beautiful: in Beverungen or even before that, in Bad Karlshafen, turn off to the west and drive through the Solling-Vogler mountain range. First follow the B241 to Schönhagen, before entering Schönhagen turn left (north) to Neuhaus. In Neuhaus keep right in the direction of Dassel and from Dassel in the direction of Einbeck. In Einbeck you can either go north taking the B3 and then later the B64 in the direction of Kreiensen or pass Einbeck following the Ilme River on a dirt road over Volksen, Garlebsen to Kreiensen. From Kreiensen take the B64 over Bad Gandersheim to Seesen. Follow the signs indicating Goslar.

Kassel - Göttingen - Northeim - Osterode - Goslar

Beautiful country road route: take the exit „Kassel Nord”, go in the direction Stadtmitte (city centre) and take the first right turn in the direction of Münden. This will put you on a small side road which snakes it way along next to the Autobahn. Take it to Münden and then stay on the B3 to Göttingen. From Göttingen you can either go to Gieboldehausen - Herzberg and then across the Harz Mountains or follow the B3 in the direction of Northeim. From Northeim go to Katlenburg, Dorste and Osterode. Then take the B241 over Clausthal-Zellerfeld to Goslar. For those who prefer smaller roads and want to see more of the Harz Mountains, turn left just before leaving Dorste and ride to Eisdorf and Bad Grund. In Bad Grund turn right in the direction of Wildemann – Lauthenthal – Wolfshagen and then take the B82 to Goslar.

Coming from the west

Ruhr district - Paderborn - Weserbergland - Goslar

From Paderborn take the B64 in the direction of Höxter and Beverungen. From here you can go to Höxter - Holzminden - Bad Gandersheim, but even better is to turn west in the direction of Beverungen or Bad Karlshafen and ride across the Solling-Vogler mountain range. At first follow the B241 to Schönhagen, at the entrance of Schönhagen turn left (north) to Neuhaus. In Neuhaus keep right in the direction of Dassel and then toward Einbeck. In Einbeck you can either go north taking the B3 and then later the B64 in the direction of Kreiensen or pass Einbeck following the Ilme River on a dirt road over Volksen, Garlebsen to Kreiensen. From Kreiensen take the B64 over Bad Gandersheim to Seesen. Follow the signs indicating Goslar.

Seesen - Goslar

From Seesen there are (at least) two routes leading to Goslar. The faster one: take the B248 and B82 to Goslar, the longer and more winding tour takes you through the Harz Mountains. From Seesen go east to Lauthenthal in the Schildautal Valley. From there it is downhill past the Innerste River Reservoir and Langelsheim and then to Goslar. If you want even more curves, approx. 1 km after leaving Lauthental turn in the direction of Wolfshagen. This road then joins the B82 to Goslar.
