Pure Air Resort Hahnenklee

In summer The pure air resort town of Hahnenklee is the hub of an extensive network of hiking trails. In the 19th century the village had already developed into a flourishing resort. A painstakingly restored attraction is the Gustav Adolf Stave Church from 1907/08. Popular attractions are also the gemstone museum, the Heimatstube (Homeland Museum of Local History) and numerous events as well as a ride on the funicular railway, which takes passengers to the top of the Bocksberg Mountain (727 m) in about 10 minutes, from where there is a magnificent view over the Harz Mountains and Harz fore lands.
In winter Ski slopes, cross-country ski trails, a toboggan run and ice skating make Hahnenklee a popular winter sports location. Snow-making facilities assure snow in the skiing and tobogganing areas, which are easily accessible by the trail network and the cabin funicular railway.

Harz National Park
The Harz National Park is a nature preservation area covering approximately 20.000 ha of the Harz Middle Mountain Range. Primeval natural elements such as the block fields, raised bogs, rivers and forests are preserved here. National Park Rangers introduce visitors to the natural attractions.

Volksbank Arena Harz – a paradise for mountain bikers
Since the initiation of the Volksbank Arena in June 2005, mountain bikers, cyclists and bike trippers have had the longest connected trail network of Northern Germany at their disposal. The 1400 kilometre of trails includes the highest mountain region of the Upper Harz as well as the low-lying valleys. With 47 attractive routes altogether, the skilled and less skilled mountain bikers, those on bike trips as well as those on day excursions can cover an overall total of 39,000 metres in altitude.
The Volksbank Arena Harz provides a broad range of routes and trails for mountain bikers and cyclists. Professional cyclists as well as those on bike trips or unhurried excursions can put their skill and endurance to the test. The perfect starting and ending point for tours is Goslar. Besides the five round-trip tours in the Volksbank Arena Harz that are all directly connected to Goslar, mountain bikers and cyclists also have the opportunity to book guided individual or multiple-day bike tours in the Harz or other areas around Goslar. Maltermeister Tower
(distance: approx. 3 km)
The 14th century tower on the slope of the Rammelsberg above Goslar is the oldest above ground mining building of the nearby mine works. In1578 it became the bell tower for the miners and in 1740 living quarters for the warden in charge of wood for the mines (the “Maltermeister”) were incorporated. Today it houses a restaurant which is very popular for outings. Many trails begin and end here.

Oker Reservoir

With its gigantic water area and the 260 metre long dam, the Oker River Reservoir is one of the larges reservoirs in the Harz. Upper Harz Water Regal National Monument

The Upper Harz Water Regal is both an industrial monument and a beauty of nature. (A “regel” was a royal prerogative, in this case permitting the exploitation of water resources.) In part over 300 years old, the waterways include 70 lakes, long water courses, galleries and mechanical constructions which served the miners as a source of energy. Today hiking paths, educational trails and museums trace evidences of mining in the Harz.

The Brocken Mountain

The Brocken Mountain, long enveloped in legends of spirits, witches and devils, is with its 1142 meters the highest mountain in the Harz. Centred in the midst of the Harz National Park, nature has remained untouched. A hotel, a restaurant and an observation platform at the top of the mountain can be reached by riding the historic narrow-gauge steam train, the Brockenbahn, or hiking up one of many different trails.
Harzer Hexen-Stieg (Harz Witches Steep Path)

In the middle of Germany, in the middle of the Harz Mountains. An approximately one hundred kilometre hiking trail across Germany’s northernmost Middle Mountain Range; from east to west or west to east, via the legendary Brocken Mountain, the highest mountain in the north: the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg (Steep Harz Witches Trail) makes it possible. The entire beauty of the Harz Mountains lies at the hiker’s feet. Light-dappled mixed forests and dense coniferous forests, colourfully shimmering mountain meadows and steeply soaring cliffs, softly babbling brooks and majestic reservoirs.
